Air Conditioner Leaking Water Blair Athol

Water dripping from an indoor unit is the most common air conditioner leaking water call we get in Blair Athol, and it rarely means the end of the system. We find the cause and quote the fix up front.

Why Your Aircon Is Leaking Water

An aircon makes water as a normal part of cooling. Warm room air passes over a cold coil, moisture condenses out, and that water is meant to drain away through a small line to outside.

When it shows up on your floor or down the wall instead, something in that path has failed. The good news is that most causes are cheap to fix.

Blocked condensate drain

Dirty filters or coil

Dislodged drain pipe

Cracked or rusted drain tray

Failed condensate pump

Checks You Can Do Before You Call

Turn the system off at the wall first, because running it while it drips can spread water into plaster and wiring. Then have a look at these two things.

Check the filter.

Slide the indoor unit's filter out and hold it up to the light. If it is grey and choked, wash it, let it dry, and see whether the drip stops once the unit runs dry again.

Look at the drain outlet.

Outside, find where the small drain pipe ends near the outdoor unit. A puddle there, or no water at all on a dry day while the unit runs, tells you the line is blocked or displaced.

Anything past that, stop. Refrigerant lines, ceiling space and electrical parts are not DIY territory, and poking around can turn a small repair into a bigger one.

Do not wait on this

When A Leaking Split System Needs A Technician

Some drips can wait a day. These ones cannot, because each run cycle pushes water somewhere it does damage:

  • Water running down the wall or pooling at the unit's base
  • Drips near electrical fittings, switches or the switchboard
  • Brown stains spreading across the ceiling below a ducted unit

The same applies if the drip returns after you have cleaned the filter, because the blockage is deeper in the line. Our air conditioning repairs team carries the gear to flush drains, clear iced coils and replace failed pumps on the spot.

What We Do About An Air Conditioner Leaking

Find the actual cause.

We do not guess. The technician runs the system, checks the tray, the drain fall, the coil and the filters, and tells you exactly why water is escaping.

Flush and clear.

A blocked line gets flushed through, treated so the sludge does not rebuild straight away, and tested with the unit running.

Fix what is broken.

A failed pump, a cracked tray or a sagging drain gets repaired or replaced, with the price fixed before we start under our Fixed Upfront Pricing promise.

Honest advice on old units.

If a unit in its mid-teens keeps leaking because the tray and coil are shot, we will say so and talk through air conditioning replacement rather than charging you for repeat callouts.

Questions

Leaking Aircon Questions From Locals

Why is my air conditioner leaking water inside the house?

Nine times out of ten the condensate drain has blocked with sludge or dust, so water backs up and spills from the indoor unit instead of running away outside.

Is it safe to keep running a unit that is dripping?

Switch it off, because continued running can push water into the wall or ceiling and turn a simple drain clean into plaster and wiring repairs.

Can a leaking air conditioner damage my ceiling?

Yes, and the older homes around Angwin Avenue with original plaster ceilings show water stains fast, so it pays to have the drain checked before the stain spreads.

How much does it cost to fix a leaking air conditioner?

We inspect the system, find the actual cause, and give you a fixed price in writing before any work starts, so there are no hourly rates and no surprises.
